DAF LF trucks

The DAF LF are medium- and heavy-duty trucks that are widely used for urban and interurban transportation as well as in construction sites. Their maximum allowable weight is in the range between 5 and 19 tons. The vehicles have been manufactured since 2013 in Great Britain. They feature a low curb weight and the highest payload in their class. The predecessor was the 55 model.

DAF LF: the background

The new vehicle was presented at the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham in 2013. The manufacturer offers DAF LF box vans and dump trucks. The axle configuration is 4 × 2. The cabins are available in two types, have large side air inlets and additional glazing in the passenger door. There are Day Cab and Sleeper Cab available. The former one is 1,603 mm long, 2,130 mm wide, 1,610 mm high. The latter one is 400 mm higher, all other dimensions being the same. Besides, Sleeper Cab is equipped with a bunk.

The interior has a lot of compartments for storing things and a high power heating system. The position of the driver’s seat can be adjusted horizontally within the range of up to 210 mm and vertically to up to 120 mm. This allows adjusting the seat for a person of almost any height.

The vehicles are equipped with the Paccar PX-4, PX-5 and PX-7 engines fitted with the Common Rail technology and a fixed or variable geometry turbocharger. The power units conform to the Euro 6 standard due to the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR). Besides, there is a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Due to the design features, these engines allows saving up to 6% of fuel. Also, in order to reduce the fuel consumption, the manufacturer implemented an interactive system called Driver Performance Assistant. It suggests the driver how to adjust his driving style to make it more fuel-efficient.

The City version has become available for sale; it is intended for transporting goods within urban areas and is characterised by the low amount of emissions. Its maximum allowable weight is 7.5 tons.

The DAF LF Silent trucks are ideal to be used on urban streets, especially at night and in the morning. The manufacturer managed to reduce the level of the noise produced while driving to up to 70 dB due to the use of the system that limits the engine torque. It is activated by pressing a button on the dashboard.
