DAF LF 45 trucks

The DAF LF45 (Light Forte) are medium-duty trucks that were produced from 2001 until 2013. The maximum allowable weight of the vehicles varied in the range between 6 and 12 tons. They were assembled in Leyland, Great Britain. The cabins were manufactured in France at the Renault plant, and the Paccar diesel power units were made in the USA. The main purpose of these commercial vehicles is urban and regional transportation. The preceding model is the 45/55.

The background

The axle configuration of the vehicle presented in 2001 was 4 × 2. Apart from the DAF LF45 tractor unit, the company offered dump trucks, gas tank trucks, tank trucks, garbage trucks, crane trucks, fire-fighting trucks and other bodies. The vehicles were equipped with two types of cabins:

• Day. The length is 1,603, the width is 2,130, the height is 1,610 mm.
• Sleeper. They had the same width and height but were 2,003 mm long and had a bunk. Its width could reach 700 mm.

The driver’s seat was air-suspended, had the anatomical shape and lateral supports. The position of the seat could be adjusted in different directions. Inside the cab, there were holders for cups or bottles, spacious storage compartments, special nets on the walls and above the windscreen.

In 2006, the manufacturer introduced a restyled model with the Paccar engine that conformed to the Euro 4 emission standard. The engines were equipped with the SCR technology which ensured the exhaust gas purification using the AdBlue substance.

At the beginning of 2009, the second restyling took place. The manufacturer fitted the vehicle with an absolutely new engine that conformed to the EEV standard.

In 2010, at the International Motor Show in Hannover the presentation of the LF Hybrid took place. That was a twelve-ton vehicle powered by a hybrid engine. The vehicle combined diesel and electric power units, which allowed reducing the fuel consumption to up to 20%.
