MAN TGL trucks

The MAN TGL are medium-duty trucks which have been produced since 2005. The maximum allowable weight of the vehicles varies in the range of 7.49–12 tons. They are assembled in Steyr, Austria. Depending on the type of the body and cabin, these vehicles can be used both for transportation within an urban area and for long-distance hauling. Besides, they are often used by public utilities. In 2005, at the European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam, the car was awarded the International Truck of the Year title. The predecessor of the model is the L 2000 which entered mass production in 1993.

Generation I (2005–2008)

The manufacturer presented not only the MAN TGL tractor units but also dump trucks, garbage trucks, horse trailers, etc. The axle configuration was 4 × 2. The vehicle was equipped with engines with the Common Rail direct fuel injection and the exhaust gas aftertreatment EGR. With the PM-Kat diesel particulate filter installed, the power units conformed to the Euro 4 standards and didn’t require the use of a more expensive SCR technology.

Generation II (2008 - present)

In 2008 at the Hannover International Motor Show, the second generation of the model was introduced. Despite the fact that its kerb weight is 5.73 tons, the vehicle is characterised by excellent manoeuvrability. Thanks to that, the vehicle is suitable for being used in urban conditions and on construction sites with restricted spaces.

The MAN TGL trucks are fitted with 2,240 mm wide cabins. They have different dimensions measured in millimetres and can be of the following types:

• C. The length is 1,620, the height is 1,585.
• L. The length is 2,280, the height is 1,645. They have one bunk which is 750 mm wide.
• LX. The length is 2,280, the height is 1,925. They are equipped with two bunks: the width of the lower one is 749 mm, and the upper one is 645 mm wide.

Vehicles with a compact cabin of the C type can have a wheelbase varying between 3,300 and 4,850, others are in the range between 3,050 and 6,700 mm. The manufacturer also offers commercial vehicles with the DoKa cab. It has four doors, six or seven seats. Its length is 2,785, the width is 2,240, the height is 1,645 mm.

Its interior features compartments for tools and first aid kit, hooks for clothes. Besides, there is an air conditioning. The dashboard, even as standard, is fitted with a multifunction LCD screen that allows watching the readings of the main systems without being distracted from the road.

The trucks are equipped with powerful D08 diesel engines which reduce the fuel consumption by up to 5%. They meet the requirements of the Euro 5 and 6 emission standards. The fuel efficiency is also contributed to by the company’s branded electronically controlled TipMatic gearbox, and the EfficientCruise cruise control.
