MAN TGM trucks

The MAN TGM heavy-duty trucks have been manufactured since 2005 up to the present moment. Their gross vehicle weight varies from 12 to 26 tons. The assembly is carried out in Austria and Germany. The vehicle combines a large cargo capacity and optimal dynamic characteristics. The preceding model is the M2000.

I generation (2005–2008)

In 2005, vehicles with axle configurations 4 × 2, 4 × 4 or 6 × 4 and the wheelbase ranging from 3525 to 6175 mm entered production. They were equipped with turbocharged engines and the EGR system that conformed to Euro 3 and 4 standards.

II generation (2008–2012)

Under the cab, there were new power units fitted with the Pure Diesel system. It included the exhaust gas recirculation technology (EGR) and Common rail fuel injection. The engines were characterised by a lower fuel consumption and conformed to Euro 5 standard.

III generation (2012–present)

The modern commercial vehicles are characterised by a low kerb weight. That became possible, in particular, due to the patented Z-shaped profile of the front axle. It weighs 8.5 kg less which is good for payload. Besides, the manufacturer uses a lighter frame made of perforated rails. It allows easier mounting of different bodies and using the truck, for example, for street cleaning, transportation of building materials and also as a fire engine.

For MAN TGM tractor units, four types of cabs are available with the same width of 2,240 mm. So, there are the following options:

• C. These are suitable for driving around the city and short trips to the suburbs. The length is 1,620, the height is 1,585 mm.
• L. They have one sleeping berth. The length is 2,280, the height is 1,645 mm.
• LX. With the same length, they are 280 mm higher than the previous models. They might be equipped with two sleeping berths. The area of the lower bed is 1.71 sq. m. and the upper one is 1.5 sq. m.
• Double. It is a four-door cab with an additional row of four seats. It can accommodate up to 7 people. Its length is 2,785, height - 1,645 mm.

Inside the MAN TGM trucks, there is a great number of compartments for essentials, a space to install a fridge. The climate control ensures comfort during journeys. All the necessary information about the functioning of the main vehicle systems is shown on the colour screen placed on the front panel.

The manufacturer uses the innovative D08 engine. It weighs nearly 100 kg less than its predecessor and allows reducing the fuel consumption by approximately 5%. The power unit conforms to Euro 6 standard and is fitted with a turbocharger, the Common Rail fuel injection system, EGR technology for exhaust gas treatment.

The adaptive cruise control EightCruise with GPS helps to increase fuel efficiency. It predicts the route topography and chooses the optimal driving speed. Besides, there are ABS and EBS systems, emergency brake assist (EBA), electronic stability control (ESP) and others.
