These vehicles were manufactured from 1996 until 2014. The Renault Kerax trucks were intended to be used mainly in the construction industry and agriculture. There are also versions for military applications which are still available from authorized dealers. Moreover, the model was used as a technical support vehicle for the Dakar Rally. The production was carried out on the territory of France and Russia. The twin of the model is a vehicle with the same name but produced under the brand Mack, and its predecessor is the Renault Maxter.

The background

The manufacturer offered three cabs of different lengths. It could be 1,600, 2,000 or 2,200 mm. Their width was 2,300 mm. Such bodies as concrete mixers and dump trucks were available, as well as special tank trucks for military purposes. The heavy-duty Renault Kerax trucks were produced with different GVW: from 19 to 32 tons.

Initially, the trucks were equipped with the engines that conformed to the Euro 3 emissions standard. Starting from 2009, the manufacturer began using the SCR system. It didn’t require difficult maintenance and functioned properly even when running on poor quality fuel. This allowed reducing the amount of harmful emissions and making the power units to conform to the Euro 5 requirements.

The vehicles were equipped with the Optidriver+ or ZF transmissions. They ensured better fuel efficiency. To improve the safety level, the ABS, ASR, EBS, emergency braking systems and Hill Start Assist were used. The Optibrake retarder was available as an optional extra. The following axle configurations were offered: 4 × 2, 6 × 4, 6 × 6, 8 × 4, 8 × 8.

In 2011 the company presented the Xtrem version. One of its features was a flywheel protection. The new vehicle was intended to be used in the mining industry.
