RENAULT TRUCKS Magnum trucks

The heavy-duty long-haul Renault Magnum trucks had the gross vehicle weight of 18-44 tons and were manufactured from 1990 to 2013 in France. In 1991, the vehicle was awarded the International Truck of the Year. There was a twin model which was manufactured under the brand name Mack for the Australian market.

AE (1990–1997)

The unusual cab design of the new truck attracted much attention: it had a flat floor. The manufacturer managed to achieve this by using a four-point air suspension which attached the upper part of the cab separately from the lower one. That solution allowed reducing noise and vibrations while driving significantly. The concept of the interior called Multi Space featured a larger windscreen and transformable seats. Renault Magnum tractor units could have the following axle configurations: 4 × 2, 6 × 2 and 6 × 4. In 1992, the engines had started to conform to the Euro 1 standard.

Integral (1997–2001)

The Mack power units used in them were updated to comply with the Euro 2 emissions standard. Slight changes also affected the exterior and interior of the vehicles.

Millenium (2001–2006)

The manufacturer used the Mack E7 E-Tech engines and the brand electronic fuel injection system V-Mac. This helped to reduce the fuel consumption and meet the requirements of the Euro 3 standard. When new engines appeared, versions of the model got a new name. They were called according to the power of their engines measured in horsepowers: 400, 440 and 480.

New Dimensions (2006–2013)

The vehicles were now equipped with Volvo DXi12 and DXi13 power units that conformed to the Euro 4 and Euro 5 standards. Fuel injection systems were developed together with the Delphi Corporation. The manufacturer offered four types of cabs. The Classic had one sleeping berth and a swivel passenger seat. The Duo featured an air suspension of both driver’s and passenger’s seats. In the Storage, the second seat was replaced with storage drawers. The Freedom cab was fitted with only one seat which gave an opportunity to rearrange it according to the driver’s needs.

In 2006, the concept tractor unit Renault Magnum Vega was presented. The model featured a completely covered chassis, neon exterior and interior lighting, black interior trimming. Later a limited-run production was established.

In 2010, a limited edition called Route 66 Edition appeared. This is the index of the main route in the USA which connects two megalopolises Chicago and Los Angeles. There were 150 units of trucks produced. They were characterised with chrome-plated elements used in exterior and unique decorations created with aerography techniques, for example, on the fuel tank.

In 2011, the Legend vehicles were presented with a total of 99 units produced. Each of them had a plate on the door with their number on it. These vehicles could be easily recognised by their matte white top and black bottom of the front part. There are some leather elements in the interior.
