SCANIA 4 - series trucks

The Scania 4-series belong to heavy-duty trucks. Their maximum allowable weight varies from 18 to 48 tons. They were produced from 1995 until 2007 at the company’s plants in Sweden. In 1996 the vehicle won the prestigious International Truck of the Year award. These vehicles replaced the 3-series.

The vehicles were launched into production in 1995 and were offered in two-, three- and four-axle versions. The following axle configurations were available: 4 × 2, 6 × 2, 6 × 2/4, 6 × 4 and 6 × 4/4, 6 × 6, 8 × 4, 8 × 6, 8 × 8, 10 × 4. Depending on the intended purpose, the vehicles were divided into four categories:

• D – for suburban and urban traffic;
• L – for international hauling;
• C – for use at construction sites and on the poor road surface;
• G – for performing works in extreme road/climatic conditions.

The latter ones were characterised by a high road clearance and extra durable design. The G class included, for example, heavy-duty trucks.

Apart from standard cabins, these commercial vehicles could be equipped with the cabs with one or two bunks. Besides, a CrewCab model was offered: they were fitted with additional seats.

The design of the spacious cabin interior was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the famous designer who won the Car Designer of the Century award. The seats could be adjusted in various directions, and the half-moon-shaped dashboard was located around the driver, which ensured comfortable reach to the instruments.

There were a lot of storage compartments in the cabin. In addition, it was equipped with useful accessories like a retractable table. A mini-kitchen with a microwave oven, coffee maker and fridge was available as an option.

The trucks were equipped with fuel-efficient diesel engines that conformed to the Euro 4 emission standard. Even when the maximum power of the power units was achieved, the fuel consumption was relatively low.
